Casa Peguche is an original Mediterranean dwelling that has been specially modified to cater to individuals with disabilities. This wheelchair-accessible accommodation is located at the end of a tranquil street in the Girasoles neighborhood of Cumbre del Sol on the Costa Blanca in Spain. Able to accommodate 8 to 10 individuals, this house truly serves as a family home suitable for people of all ages, including those with disabilities.
From the house, one can enjoy breathtaking views of the La Granadella nature reserve and the Mediterranean Sea, creating the perfect oasis to unwind from the fast-paced demands of everyday life. The detached Casa sits on its own fully enclosed plot spanning over 800 m2, complete with a carport accommodating two cars. The plot is entirely flat, featuring spacious terraces and a comfortable lounge set that ensures easy accessibility for wheelchair users, enabling them to move around freely without any limitations.
Casa Peguche is a holiday retreat that originally consisted of two separate floors but underwent extensive renovation in 2016. The goal was to transform it into a welcoming space for wheelchair users, resulting in a ground floor that is entirely flat, barrier-free, and wheelchair accessible. Over a construction period of more than six months, the Casa was expanded to offer ample space for 8 to 10 people without compromising its warm and cozy atmosphere.
The house is designed to maximize natural light, employing natural materials and earthy tones that create a delightful ambiance. The ground floor exudes an open and inclusive character, providing optimal mobility for wheelchair users. The floor is divided into three interconnected rooms, separated only by decorative arches, ensuring continuous engagement among the occupants. The stylish decor, featuring Italian furniture in cherry wood, adds a touch of Mediterranean elegance to the overall aesthetic of the Casa.
The living room of the Casa features two seating areas, providing easy access to the garden through multiple threshold-free doors, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces. The modern and sturdy sitting area, furnished with four chairs, is perfect for engaging in games or enjoying meaningful conversations.
On the other hand, the cozy corner with an authentic soapstone woodstove creates a delightful atmosphere, allowing one to unwind by a crackling fire in electrically adjustable chairs. This feature ensures that even during a winter stay, the holiday residence remains exceptionally comfortable. Additionally, the Casa offers Dutch satellite TV with DVD, wireless internet connection via WiFi, and a radio/CD player.
The spacious kitchen is fully equipped and designed to be completely wheelchair accessible. It features a partially lowered worktop with a standard sink and tap, enabling everyone to prepare their favorite meals or tapas. The kitchen is furnished with a microwave oven, an extra-wide induction hot plate, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and a fridge/freezer, providing all the necessary appliances. In addition to the standard kitchen accessories, there is a regular coffee machine and a Senseo coffee machine available. The long dining table in the dining room comfortably accommodates 8 to 10 people and is fully accessible from both sides, thanks to the open layout of the house. This allows for continuous interaction with fellow diners while meal preparation takes place.
Living Areas
The dining room and the annex are connected by a wide arched door, which is fully equipped for disabled individuals but can be used by able-bodied people as well, of course. The adjustments made in this room seamlessly blend with the rest of the house, ensuring that it doesn't give off a clinical or hospital-like atmosphere. This special room features two mobile high/low beds with trapeze bars, an adapted extended toilet with folding support brackets, and a slightly tiltable sink with a standard tap for wheelchair users. Additionally, there is a wheelchair-accessible shower equipped with a fixed folding shower chair and a mobile shower chair. Two patio doors without thresholds provide access from this bedroom to the garden and its terraces. This allows for easy movement of a wheelchair or even a bed if desired.
A graceful spiral staircase connects the ground floor to the upper floor, but it can also be reached via the outside staircase and the original entrance of the residential floor. This spacious upper floor offers three luxuriously furnished bedrooms and a bathroom equipped with all the necessary comforts.
One of the bedrooms is decorated in a colonial style and features a double bed (180x210) with an electrically adjustable mattress. This bedroom offers views of the pool and the Mediterranean Sea and provides direct access to one of the existing roof terraces.
The second bedroom has two single beds (90x210 cm) with electrically adjustable mattresses. This room also includes a spacious wardrobe.
The third bedroom can accommodate three people and is furnished with bunk beds (90x210 cm) and an additional trundle bed, suitable for both children and adults. The room is equipped with a wardrobe and a dresser that can also serve as a changing table. For the little ones, amenities such as a changing mat, a potty, a high chair, and a crib are available.
Bedrooms
The generously sized private pool (8x4m) offers ample opportunities for play, cooling off, or doing a few laps. Steps within the pool allow for easy entry, and a pool hoist is also available, ensuring that all guests, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy the pool.
The water level in the shallow part of the pool is approximately 1.30m, while the deepest part reaches around 1.85m. Adjacent to the pool is a spacious, completely flat terrace adorned with a large lounge set and sunbeds. With its stunning views of La Granadella National Park and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, it feels like having your very own private resort.
Furthermore, the two expansive roof terraces provide a perfect place to unwind and take in the breathtaking sights of the garden, pool, adjacent nature reserve, and the vast expanse of the Mediterranean. Whether you prefer relaxing in a hammock or sinking into a cozy beanbag, on clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of Ibiza. In summary, this is the ultimate sanctuary for unwinding and rejuvenating.
